Day 49 of 90
Went to the No Gi Worlds. Always very exhausting to watch jits all day but one thing I noticed watching the black belts. I feel like the main difference between black belts and purples is...mental. I mean they really have been doing the same moves since purple but at black belt they just believe in their moves just that much more. A lot of the mistakes are the same, the passes are the same but the black belts just constantly are driving forward, pushing that much harder, not hesitating on their moves, always looking calm, even lazy or sleepy at times. They aren't intimidated and when they go for something they just know it will work.
The difference between the top level guys and pretty good guys it seems is so minor. The pretty good black belt tries moves that he can pull off at will in training but he can only almost pull it off in competition. It's always close but can't complete it. The champion black belt will not relent until his moves work. Will not accept the takedown or refuse being on bottom. Again it seems mental, who's will will not break. Who's willing to give or accept more. It's a game of inches and when you won't give an inch you will win by inches.
